5.0 out of 5 stars Tristan Smith is a facinating read with discoveries that astrophgysicists will enjoy
By Amazon Customer on June 13 2016 Verified Purchase
These 3 series are as astrophysicist's delight. It shows the love that a modest Tristan has for his family as he goes on
a deep space mission, leaving his family behind. His unassuming modesty makes his heroism shine out. It has well
thought-out laws of physics to make it believable and even as time goes by, quite possible. I believe his hope was to
have his theories in his book proved right as science advances in time. I have known the author and as it was being
prepared for publishing, science has been advancing and discovering many of the story elements that had been already been
portrayed in the story. This has frustrated the author as he was forced to get his book published before everything he had
thought of was discovered. I have read all 6 books in this first series. It starts off with a trip to Mars to see the alien
Building Site. The trip is slow due to the technology of the time, so the story fills in with the characters you'll meet in
the remaining books. It introduces you to the interesting technology that gets us to Mars. In the second book, it goes
further. Technology advances to the point where in the same time, you can get to the Asteroid belt, and the inherent dangers
and intrigue of travelling further. In the third book, technology advances to the point where you can get to Jupiter in the
same amount of time, and there you are introduced to the strange new force that impacts the remaining books, allowing us to
visit the aliens. In the fourth book, technology advances to the point where you can get to Saturn in the same time (and
even more dangers). Here the hero of the second series is introduced "Rose" in a space traveler role. In book 5, Tristan
takes a back seat, as his former boss takes a ship to visit the alien's home world. This describes a lot of fascinating new
discoveries as they advance across the galaxy, as Tristan stays at Saturn to prepare for Book 6. In book 6, the conclusion
of this first series, there is a major battle that you'll have to read for yourselves to believe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rubber leg
By Kindle Customer on Sept. 7 2016
I was very intrigued by the rubber leg theory so i decided to try it out with some girlfriends because they were also intrigued. I am a female and
to my surprise it worked on both of them. Im excited to get it done to myself soon. So it actually works!! The book kept me entertained and always kept
me thinking. I learned alot from reading this book. I cant wait for the next one because it leaves you in a clif hanger. Only advice i want to give to
the author is add more sex scenes. Other than that amazing book and great read. Thank you. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as i did.

Book 1 of the epic saga of the remarkable Tristan Smith and his family, is called Tristan Smith and The Alien Building
Site, written by K.P. Hogan. It is the first of 6 books, and this series is the first of 3 series.

This science fiction book will be of interest to avid science fiction fans, and especially astrophysicists. It has
aliens, biotech, nanotech, computers, space travel and dark matter. It has a lot for other readers as well; with romance,
action, mystery, terror (not horror), crime and punishment, drama, adventure, and even education. There is no fantasy or
magic, as it is all based on real (or mostly plausible) science.

It starts off with Admiral Tristan Smith in a mortal battle with Aliens in 2087. The deadly severity of it brings
Tristan to the point of reflecting on how he got into this situation. As he reminisces over his life, he remembers back to
when he was first recruited as a Lieutenant to go to Mars. His character is examined in his past, revealing a man with deep
loving affection for his wife and daughter. Even with all of the exciting adventure and discovery ahead of him, he never
loses hope in going home to them again. This book is his first 3-year mission, where he overcomes insurmountable obstacles
and makes new discoveries, and even answers some of the mysteries of astronomy.

This is primarily a story of discovery. Over time, the discoveries and rapid advancements in science facilitate
Tristan's space exploration. His humility, dedication, determination and luck (good and bad) lead to his stellar rise
through the ranks, eventually to Admiral. He is a thoroughly likable character, a true hero. This first book is an
introduction to the various story characters as he switches roommates every month. The story takes place in 2067 to 2069,
where Lieutenant Smith is a happily married father, content with his life until he gets an opportunity to go to Mars. This
is what he has always wanted. Little did he know what lay ahead of him. His trip takes him though the process of getting
on the fleet's flagship, the Pacific, where he navigates the ship on the night shift. After saving the ship through a
harrowing near-miss of an asteroid, he is brought on to the day shift, and earns the respect and admiration of the brass
and most of the crew. His dedication to his job has him develop tools to improve the ships safety and fuel economy,
allowing him to again save the ship from destruction, which earns him a promotion. They are on their way to beat the
competition (the Asian Alliance) to the Alien Building Site, just discovered on Mars. The Asian Alliance is very clever
themselves, and manages to give the Pacific a real fight for their money. Needless to say that Tristan is successful
(otherwise there wouldn't be a book #2) and they are able to secure the Alien Building Site, where they encounter aliens
from Orion’s Arm. Tristan initiates communication and trade with them, learning more about deep space from them, and even
tangling with their powerful adversaries (to return in book 2?).

The characters in this book are well written. Each of their distinct personalities are consistent through the many
facets of their experiences throughout the story.

The story has many interesting sub-plots and lots of very clever humor to keep the story engaging. It is definitely
not misogynistic, as many women hold important roles and positions of power, and the crew is made up of many different
nationalities.

The science is fairly thick in some parts, but readable. For the science readers, it will be fascinating, and they will
want more. The science is mostly accurate and well researched. You will be hard-pressed to find anything unreal,
considering this is a science fiction book. There are well thought-out science fiction items in the book, to enable the
story, but it is all entirely feasible, and may actually be proven real some day.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, or 9 out of 10 SLASHDOT points.
