Residence

Born and raised in Fort William, Ontario, later renamed Thunder Bay in 1967.
Moved to Calgary, Alberta at 21 years old and lived there for 3 years.
Moved to Ottawa, Ontario from Calgary in 1984 after the oil boom ended and have lived here since.

Married Life

Married my wife Jovita Hogan (known as Jovy) in 1991 here in Ottawa.
She came to Canada from the Philippines in 1990, working as a Nanny for Diplomats.
Our son Cory Hogan was born in 1995 and is currently majoring in Theatre and Political Science at Ottawa University.

Education

Completed Heath Park Pool's senior swimming level as a child.
Studied guitar for three years as a child.
Learned a number of folk dances in primary school, then when on to
achieve a bronze level of ballroom dancing with my wife.
Studied martial arts for many years in Thunder Bay and Ottawa.
Completed Infantryman, Mobile Support Equipment Opperator, Signalman, Mortarman, and
Junior Non-commissioned Officer courses while in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Completed grade 12 and matriculated into Lakehead University.
Studied Chemical Engineering for two years at Lakehead University.
Studied Chemical Engineering at S.A.I.T. (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) for one year.
Completed two sessions of my Carpentry Apprenticeship schooling at S.A.I.T.
Completed Advanced Carpentry Apprenticeship schooling at Algonquin College receiving
a plaque from the province of Ontario for achieving the highest marks in the course.


Completed the Ontario Provincial Carpentry Exam to obtain my Carpentry license.
Completed 'Red Seal' Carpentry Exam allowing me to work Internationally.
Took a four month Entrepreneur Course in 1990 through the Ottawa YM-YWCA Enterprise Centre before starting my business.
Took these carpenter courses over the years: Confined Space Awareness, Construction Health and Safety,
Door and Hardware, First Aid and CPR, Forklift and All-Terrain, Level and Transit, Power Elevated Work Platform,
Tube and Clamp Scaffold, Steward's Course, WHMIS, Working at Heights, Construction Estimating, Construction Law, and SCUBA

Military Service

Member of Thunder Bay Air Cadets for two years.
Member of Lake Superior Scottish Regiment for four years.
Reached rank of Corporal in the infantry.
Spent summers at Penhold, Alberta; Shilo, Manitoba; and Dunduran, Saskatchewan taking courses.
Spent 3-1/2 months in Germany serving with the Canadian 3rd Mechanized Commandos in 1976 impressing the USSR.

Union Membership

Joined Carpenter’s Union in 1981
Worked as a Job Steward for 1 year in 1988
Helped rewrite Local #93’s Bylaws in 1995
Worked as a foreman in 2010.
Currently a working member of Local #93 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America

Work History

Worked at odd jobs as a teen.
Worked as a soldier while a teen in Highschool.
Worked for a paper factory as a labourer.
Worked for the CPR railroad on a switch-gang.
Worked in an oil warehouse driving a forklift.
Worked in the oil fields of Alberta as a chemist trainee.
Worked as a carpenter since I was 21 years old.
Worked at home renovations for my own company called Hogan Home Improvements for 16 of those years.
Helped run my wife's home daycare for 12 of those years when I was between jobs.
Worked as a Carpentry Professor teaching 40, 1st Year Apprentice Carpenters at
Algonquin College for one term in the Spring of 2005.
Ran for Ottawa City Councel in the 2010 civic elections. I was unsuccessful.

Volunteer History

My wife and I volunteered for five years with OMHA (Ottawa Multicultural Homemakers Association) when
we first got married. We are no longer active.
We were founding members of PICOV (Philippine Independence Committee of the Ottawa Valley) that
held a Barrio Fiesta in 1998 at Landsdown Park. We are no longer active.
I was a partner in the "National Songfest" singing competition held by the Filipino
community. I left it after the 1st years success to focus on my business.
